People with SLD have difficulties in certain specific areas of learning, even with normal intellectual functioning.

SLD are specifically called:

• Dyslexia (reading disorder);

• Dysgraphia and Dysorthographia (writing disorder);

• Dyscalculia (calculation disorder).

The DSA certification for minors is delivered to the school to obtain the dispensatory and/or compensatory measures provided.

The Lazio Region and the Regional School Office have adopted the Guidelines for the diagnosis and certification of DSA with the aim of:

• Identifying specific learning disorders starting from preschool and in primary school;

• Accessing the evaluation and diagnosis process more easily;

• Observing and identifying difficulties in learning through standard procedures;

• Proposing targeted educational activities for enhancement and recovery in the school context.

Primary school has a specific process to report persistent learning difficulties (for at least 6 months), even after the educational enhancement program.

The school will send a written report of the issues to the family.

At this point, the Pediatrician of Free Choice will evaluate a possible referral to specialized health services for the diagnosis and certification of DSA.

The family can then choose to turn to:

entities of the regional health service or accredited private facilities for free or with a ticket, where applicable;

private specialists for a fee.
