What is Lorem Ipsum?

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text used in the printing and typesetting industry. It has been the industry's standard placeholder text since the 1500s, when an unknown printer scrambled a galley of type to create a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries but also the transition to electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It became popular in the 1960s with Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages and later with desktop publishing software such as Aldus PageMaker.

Why do we use it?

It is a well-established fact that readers are distracted by readable content when focusing on a page layout. The purpose of Lorem Ipsum is to provide text with a normal distribution of letters, making it look like natural English rather than repetitive placeholder text like “Content here.” Many publishing tools and web editors use Lorem Ipsum as default model text.

Where does it come from?

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not random text. It originates from classical Latin literature dating back to 45 BC. It comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of “De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” by Cicero, a work on ethics written in 45 BC. The commonly used phrase “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet” is derived from this text.

Where can I get some?

There are many variations of Lorem Ipsum available, but most have been altered with humor or random words that may not look believable. Reliable generators use a dictionary of Latin words combined with sentence structures to create realistic placeholder text without repetition or inappropriate content.
